On behalf of the Center for Theatre of the Oppressed
and Applied Theatre Arts, Los Angeles, I am happy to
introduce you to our organization’s web page.
Here you will learn more about our members, the organization’s
projects and programs, as well as various contacts and
alliances in the region and across the globe.
CTO/ATA/LA has been in existence for over
three years now, and as you take a tour through our
mission statement and learn more about Theatre of the
Oppressed we hope you will be inspired to come and join
our organization. This electronic outlet is a quick
way for you to find out who we are and what programs
and services we offer to members and guests alike. For
example, we have free workshops offering training in
the techniques of TO and related applications of theatre
arts on a monthly basis. We focus on various applications
of this liberatory theatre work in the fields of education,
therapy, politics, for youth, on academics and, of course,
performance. We are interested in critical dialogues
and experimental workshops surrounding the techniques
and art form of the joker, and we have many events sponsored,
co-sponsored, or supported by our members that you will
find in our calendar.
Our hope is that you will be engaged enough
by what you discover here to partner with us. Perhaps
you would like to come to one of our meetings, submit
your own ideas, offer your own workshops or tell friends
about the theory and practice of liberation arts and
community engagement through this type of work. Perhaps
we can help spread the word through our e-mail list
about your events. No matter your level of engagement,
we trust you will let us know how we may better be of
service to your community and how, together, we may
use our collective skills as theatre artists to promote
a pedagogy of liberation in a time when it is perhaps
most needed.
Thanks for your interest, and I look forward
to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Brent Blair
